Comenius Proyect "SEA: Richeness of Inspirations"
Summary
The essence of the project ‘ Sea – Richness of Inspirations’ is the theme of the sea combined with nature, history, tradition, literature, art, tourism and industry connected with the seaside region.
The most crucial aim of the project is to extend the knowledge of one’s own region and that of the partnering countries.
Moreover, by showing the similarities and differences in the development of the seaside communities, the project is to convince students of the need of cultivating the traditions and universal values so typical to democratic European communities. That should be done by stressing the importance of national identity, respecting human rights and developing civic duty. By applying both activating methods and advanced technologies the project is to enable young people to learn about various cultures and European communities, improve language skills, establish proper interpersonal relationships, enrich the knowledge and experiences in a friendly atmosphere of tolerance and respect to the partners’ autonomy.
Schooling and teaching on the basis of the above mentioned topics help to shape a responsible and mature attitude of a young man, who is not afraid to face challenges and successfully aims at completing his goals.
The project engages outstanding students as well as the ones with special educational needs.
The cooperation in the project involves children from the age of 12 to 17 years old, from Poland, Spain, Italy and Turkey.
Apart from systematic work, lasting the whole school year in particular schools, there will be four partner to partner visits.The course of the project’s implementation will be regularly monitored and evaluated.
Context and Motivation
Italy
A state High School, the I.I.S. “Gaetano De Sanctis” is situated in the northern area of Rome and with 1200 students and 120 teachers in its four seats it has always been considered an effective cultural point of reference for the whole community.
Besides its basic Humanites structure the Gaetano De Sanctis High School is particularly involved in the development of the linguistic abilities to reflect and interpret all cultural representations, whether visual or logical through communication.
Great importance is therefore given to exchange programs with other schools not only to enhance our students’ use of the foreign language studies but also to give them a deeper, over-all understanding of our world today enabling them to be open to dialogue with and understanding of other cultures.
With reference to this, our school has been involved for years in Projects and specific activities dealing with the importance of fighting cultural and racial prejudices making students identify all forms of racism and discrimination as the most serious impediment to a peaceful future. Specific activities are also carried out for students with special educational problems or needs: our Project “School in Hospital” is aimed at supporting students suffering from serious pathologies who are not in condition to attend regular lessons at school and are given classes while being in hospital.
Spain
Our school "I.E.S Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente" is in a very popular quarter of the city of Burgos, Spain. This neighbourhood grew up in the 1960s as a home for the workforce who came from nearby towns and villages that the industrial expansion of the city needed at that time. Nowadays it consists of working middle class families which still keep its original roots in their villages. So, most of the students share village and city culture as well.
Being from an in-land town we would like to have the chance to introduce our students to a completely different area of knowledge from which, as can be seen, are geographically and culturally excluded were it not for this kind of project. This is meant for a bilingual group, English-Spanish, which have already got a good command of the English language and mostly do well at school.
Turkey
The school from Turkey is Mithat Paşa İlköğretim Okulu . It’s a primary school in the city center of İskenderun - Hatay,in Turkey. This institution is not in a disadvantaged area. It’s one of the biggest primary schools in İskenderun. The main aim of Mithatpaşa İlköğretim Okulu from Turkey to take part in this activity is promoting the language leaning among our pupils and teachers and to provide our pupils to learn other cultures and countries. Besides we’d like our teachers to learn the new approaches in education and to take part in activities with their European collegues.
a) The plans connected with European cooperation are the following:
- to find out about the geographical, cultural and traditional differences and similarities of the co-partners of the project
- to cultivate the maritime traditions
- to search the ways of creative and thorough development of the youth on the basis of the existing possibilities and chances of the maritime region
- to develop the interests, to extend the entrepreneurship and the awareness and cultural expression of the students
- to encourage foreign language learning among students
- to make new contacts and lasting friendships among the people from different European countries
- to integrate the children with special educational needs
- to make use of modern IT technologies
- to introduce new teaching innovations and share the already developed educational interactions
